February saw a few of our members braving sunshine, warm temperatures, long draggy climbs, local cafe stops and extensive rehydration in one of our favourite winter destinations. The trip also doubled up as a prolonged birthday celebration for the club social secretary, the shy, retiring and uncontroversial Helene Williamson, who managed to raise a smile and a glass every now and then
Rides ranged from short coastal coffee rides to the ascent of the Pico las Nieves, just short of 200 metres in elevation. Anyone who has visited the island will know that there are numerous beautiful climbs, none more so than ‘Serenity’ above Mogan in the south west of the island.
Unless you are going for a time it is probably impossible not to smile before, during and after this one!
The trip also ended in a return to a very early spring in Cumbria, with a temperature drop of less than 10 degrees and more cycling in the sun, happy days all round
